About this site (and about me!)

I’m Liam Beiglari, a registrar in Immunology & Immunopathology based in Sydney, Australia. My day‑to‑day work sits at the intersection of clinical medicine and laboratory science: I look after patients with diseases of the immune system and I work in a diagnostic laboratory. I'm still learning though and will sit my final immunopathology examinations this year (2025).

🚴‍♂️ Beyond the clinic

Outside the hospital you’ll find me cycling around Sydney, reading, or coming up with experiments to test on myself. I also write Umeboshi, my semi-monthly newsletter. You can sign up on the front page.

📚 Philosophy

I approach medicine with a stewardship mindset. I make sure I maintain gratitude for the resources I have at my disposal and I consider carefully the responsibility I have for how I use them. I care about evidence but trying to keep a curious open mind while being light hearted.

🙋‍♂️ Liam, why bother having a website?

I have been heavily influenced by Maggie Appleton and her essays on building digital gardens. Additionally, the concept of learning in public has drastically changed the way I think about pushing forward my understanding of my niche field (and others). What I hope to achieve with this website is likely to change but right now it is to:

1) Make a website. I know very few people who have done this!
2) Share my thoughts in a public way (learn in public) and get other perspectives.
3) Have a launch point for a newsletter.
4) See what happens!

Views are my own; nothing here constitutes medical advice. If a post sparks a question—or a polite debate—drop me a line via the contact page.
